Time for a new dishwasher? Dishwashers, as with any appliance, will have a huge impact on the flow of your kitchen and, essentially, on your business. Commercial undercounter and pass through dishwashers are very different to those used in the home. They heat up a lot quicker, have faster cycles, can deal with larger amounts of washing per day and are, generally, more durable and long lasting. Whilst all kinds of commercial dishwashers have the previously mentioned qualities, there are several different types on the market with the major difference being pass through or under-counter.
With a pass through dishwasher, the operator simply passes racks of crockery across onto the dishwasher and then pulls down the hood to start the washing cycle. An under-counter dishwasher is much closer to a domestic dishwasher; it will fit underneath counters and has a front opening door. The operator lifts the racks in and out of the machine. Choosing the right one for your commercial kitchen is vital. There’s a lot to consider including the space available to you, your budget, the volume of washing and even how your team work.
Dishwashers for Restaurants
Generally speaking, a restaurant will tend to have a larger kitchen and, therefore, the capacity for a pass through a dishwasher. Restaurant kitchens will be dealing with high volumes of washing up before, during and after each service and so it’s important to choose a dishwasher that can handle large amounts frequently and continue to run efficiently. The size of restaurant and pub kitchens mean that larger machines can fit in easily. This makes pass through dishwashers the most suitable choice. Below are some of our recommended dishwashers for pubs or restaurants:
Classeq H857A
This H857A can clean a huge 720 plates per hour – there’s no arguing with that kind of capacity. It’s powerful and can handle large amounts of washing but with a 39 litre wash tank and type A air gap, it’s still energy efficient. There’s also a wide range of compatible tabling too, meaning it can be adapted to fit into many kitchen layouts.
Maidaid C1035WS
Ideal for larger premises, this pass through dishwasher has three fast cycle times (the longest being 240 seconds) and an automatic self-cleaning cycle. With a double flow wash pump, it’s also energy efficient.
Dishwashers for Cafes and Coffee Shops
Cafes and coffee shops tend to have a much smaller kitchen space to work in and so all appliances need a smaller footprint, including dishwashers. Luckily, the volume of washing up per day is likely to be smaller too, so not having a huge machine shouldn’t have a negative impact on the business. For these reasons, it tends to be that an undercounter is the ideal choice for a cafe or coffee shop. It’s worth noting, though, that undercounter dishwashers will require a lot of bending down and lifting racks that are full of crockery. It’s important to consider whether this kind of operation will suit your team members.
Below are some of our recommended dishwashers for cafes and coffee shops:
Classeq D500DUO
The D500DUO can clean up to 30 racks per hour. It’s definitely small and compact, but, at the same time, powerful enough to handle commercial washing. There’s double skinned doors and sides which will help with noise reduction (very important as premises small enough to need an undercounter dishwasher will often be operating the dishwasher closer to customers). The double skinned doors also reduce heat loss, helping to reduce energy costs.
Maidaid C515 WSD
The Maidaid C515 WSD also offers superb dishwashing in a neat and discrete machine. There are three fast wash cycles with an automatic self-cleaning cycle. The dishwasher has the all-important partial double skin for noise and heat reduction. The machine has operational self-diagnostic capabilities so, should any problems arise, the dishwasher will let you know.\
Dishwashers for Schools and Residential Homes
Generally speaking, kitchens in these kinds of establishments are large and so a pass through dishwasher will fit easily. With schools, the dishwasher will be out of use during weekends and holidays which will extend the dishwasher’s life and, therefore, make it a really economical purchase. Whilst schools and residential homes won’t necessarily need to be running at frequencies as high as in restaurants, they will still be dealing with large loads of washing. Again, this makes a pass through machine most suitable.
